The Kerry McLeod Bursary is a $500 grant awarded to a person between 18-25 living in the Sydney region, looking to begin or further their career working with companion animals.
The grant will be delivered as a one-off payment designed to help with general costs, books or travel expenses incurred while studying.
This bursary is possible thanks to the late Kerry McLeod, who was a teacher (at Sydney Uni), animal activist and supporter of Maggie's Rescue.

The Kerry McLeod Bursary has greatly assisted me with my further education in the animal care industry. I am already working as a veterinarian nurse and believe studying animal training and behaviour will greatly compliment my skills.

My first dog Max was a rescue dog from Hong Kong with multiple health problems. Seeing the veterinarians treat and alleviate his issues and the new found confidence Max gained sparked that flick in me - that’s what I wanted to do!
Currently studying a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Sydney, I am learning to identify, treat and prevent an array of health conditions, just like Max’s.
By the end of my degree, I intend to be a compassionate vet who constantly refines their skills set and remains involved with shelter companion animals. Through the Kerry McLeod Bursary, I am able to enact this work ethic by undertaking additional placement opportunities in shelter / rehabilitation environments, without the financial stress of missing work.

I’m a small animal veterinary nurse and an final-year Honours student in a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Advances Studies (Animal and Veterinary Bioscience).
I hope to graduate with a doctorate to become a veterinarian and improve companion animal health on a hands-on level. With the start of my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree next year, I will need a whole slew of textbooks, surgical instruments and materials.
The Kerry McLeod Bursary will be incredibly helpful to me in aiding in the purchase of these materials to support my studies.
